Easing Reentry
From Listening Campaign to Law!
During a MACG listening campaign in 2015 it became clear that those reentering society after incarceration were being burdened by court and post-supervision costs. After the issue was identified, MACG, and member institution PHOENIX Rising Transitions, spent two years listening, researching, identifying solutions and taking action towards resolution, including giving testimony before three different legislative committees. In June of 2017, SB 360 passed the Oregon legislature and in July 2017, Governor Kate Brown signed the bill into law. This bill allows the recently released to cover some of the costs associated with incarceration through community service.
